Sassa SRD Announcement | Update Details If Surname Changed
In their recent updates, The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) urges their clients and potential clients to update their personal details if they recently changed their details on Home Affairs.
Have you recently changed your surname at Home Affairs? This may be as a result of you getting married to someone or changed because of other personal reasons. Sassa encourages you to update your details on the SRD system in order to continue accessing the SRD Grant.
Sassa is the only agency that is responsible for administration of social grants in South Africa. They are an entity of the Department of Social Development.

The recent Sassa SRD Announcement reads “Clients who get married or change their surname @HomeAffairsSA are urged to update SASSA of the change”
SASSA clients are requested to please provide updated details when they have changed on Home Affairs database.
The Importance of Social Assistance
According to the Western Cape Government website, Social grants are in place to help improve standards of living in society and are given to people who are vulnerable to poverty and in need of state support. These generally include older people, people with disabilities, and people with young children.

How to Apply for Social grants?
You may apply for social grants by visiting local branches of the South African Social Security Agency. Make sure you take relevant personal documents to get assistance when applying for social grants.
You may also apply for social grants online on the Sassa website. For SRD Grant applications, you apply on the Sassa SRD website.
